Exploring ADO.NET

with Dr. Neil Roodyn

Aims and objectives

The data connection component, ADO.NET, works with XML aware platforms and is a key technology of the Microsoft .NET framework. This two day course explains how to best exploit this Microsoft database technology.

The course consists of discussions of data connectivity technologies and 50% of the time will be spent in hands on exercises where the delegate can gain real experience developing ADO.NET technology. This helps to reinforce an understanding of how to best utilise this technology.

To get the most out of this course delegates should be experienced programmers with some exposure to either VB.NET or C#. An understanding of databases is essential and comprehending component based design and development would be advantageous.

The course covers the following topics:

1.       Introduction - What is ADO.NET?

2.       Data connectivity

3.       Using DataReader and DataAdapter

4.       Using DataSets and DataTables

5.       Editing data

6.       XML and ADO.NET

7.       Data-binding

8.       Views

9.       Transactions

10.   The Future
